Introduction

This chapter is called Imperialism. Imperialism is the control of one people by another. The colonial power may rule the colony politically or exploit it economically or impose its culture upon it. This chapter mainly focused on the Europeans' control in Africa, India, China, Japan and the Middle East. The Europeans set up colonies in these areas for trading. Their policy at this time was control of an area and to to conquer it. What I hope to accomplish through this blog is a better understanding of how and why the Europeans set up colonies in these areas for trade purposes.

EQ: What motives caused the nations of Europe to engage in imperialistic activities?
The nations of Europe engaged in imperialism because of the search for markets and raw materials, missionaries to convert the people, military and naval bases to protect its interests, and ideology of the "White Man's Burden".
